I believe that all men, at their core, want to be good.
We want to be kind partners, loving parents, trusted workers, better friends…
We want more enjoyable relationships and more fulfilling careers; we want to have enough money to not have to worry, and we all want strong, flexible and healthy bodies.
Ultimately, we want to be free... free to live our lives in alignment with our truest values.
I also believe that the world is in dire need of men with greater empathy, emotional intelligence, and accountability.
If we had that, then I believe we’d have less separation, less hate, less crime, less war... we’d have a more peaceful, kind and compassionate world.
And finally, I know that none of us is perfect.
We want to be better, but there’s often something that gets in the way.
We all have an Achille’s tendon, a place where we lose power.
We tell little white lies about who we are or what we think…
We hold back saying things because we think people won’t understand or it might hurt their feelings…
We cross a boundary… we drive faster than the speed limit, punch in late for a shift, call in sick when we’re perfectly well, make excuses for why we’re late to a meeting or selectively “forget” that we said we would do something.
These are all human conditions, we’re not alone... and we can do better.
And when we do better, when we live our lives in greater and greater integrity, we get closer and closer to being free.
